Poetry

Three illustrations for the book of poems "Metralla" by the Spanish poet Tito Muñoz: This book was a limited edition, lavishly produced, published in 1998 with a prologue by the singer Joan Manuel Serrat. I am immensely proud of this work. I think my illustrations capture well the sweet and sour humour of the poet (Even if I say so myself!)

More Pett

Here are some more "Pett" stills. The film has never been distributed in any way...It is neither "cutting edge" enough nor too commercial...It is just a nicely drawn and colourful animated film, and very few people care about that.
It is possible that some day Ted and I may do some CDs and distribute them to friends ourselves.

Felix

A lovey Felix The Cat page drawn by Otto Mesmer I have hanging on my wall.

Monsieur Pett

These are the best designs I think I ever done for animation. They are from "Monsieur Pett". A film that I feel was unjustly overlooked. I tried to pay homage to Max Linder films and Bobbe Cannon animations. I'll post some more in the future.

Annual Report

I've drawn this annual report for a large Dutch insurance company, Hudig-Langeveldt Groep bv, in 1985. It was a lot of fun to do it and the client was great..It was more fun working for an insurance company than for advertising agencies...Can you imagine that?!!!

Wonder Woman?

Once upon a time, my good friend Jerry Beck and I decided to post some false information about animation facts in the hope to confuse animation historians...You can check these "facts" at:

Green Moon

"Green Moon" is an idea for a short in a Hubleyesque vein.
The project is in the back burner until the climate for children animation in the market becomes more propitious for this kind of thing.

Pinocchio

In the mid eighties I proposed to a publisher to illustrate an updated version of "Pinocchio" using the original text of Carlo Collodi. It is a great and scary story of lost children. The publisher was enthusiastic but it coincided with the centenary of the first publication and there were hundreds of new editions all over the world, so we had to cancel our project.
I still have a "dummy" and many pictures completed. Here are two of them. I'll post some more at a later date.

The World is Round

These pictures are from "The World is Round" a children's book written by Graham Marks and drawn by me. I intended the drawings to be a "homage" to Disney's Silly Symphonies.
It was published by Pavilion Books in 1983.

Twist

Some time ago we toyed with the idea of producing an animated feature with a hip hop version of Oliver Twist.
I was particularily attracted by the idea of Peter O'Toole voicing Fagin.

Success Story

So far I've posted designs for commercials that didn't happen. These three are characters for American commercials we produced and completed at Klacto.

By The Seaside

Hans asked to see something from "Seaside Woman". S.W. was a short I made for Linda McCartney in 1980. I have very little material available but today I found this still. I don't know what was it for.

Fausto

In April this year, Ediciones de la Flor, from Buenos Aires, published Estanislao del Campo's "Fausto", illustrated by me. I am very happy with the results. Written in the 1860's, it is the funny story of a gaucho who thinks he saw the devil in person when in reality what he saw was Gounoud's opera while visiting the big city.

Reds

These character designs also hit the dust even before we presented them to the agency. That was and is the nature of the business. The beautiful tracing on cell was done by Theresa Edwards.
